QP backs events on healthcare, business As per the directives of Energy and Industry Minister HE Dr Mohamed Saleh al-Sada, Qatar Petroleum (QP) recently served as the major sponsor of the first Qatar International Paediatric Surgery Congress and the 14th Arab Business Forum.Dr al-Sada is also the chairman and managing director of QP.“Our strong support to these two important events, which were recently held in Doha, reflects QP’s engagement in a wide range of activities that promote better healthcare and continued economic development,” said QP public relations and communications manager Sultan Abdulla Ali al-Abdulla.“We are delighted to contribute to the success of these events, and we are confident that their proceedings would eventually translate into tangible benefits for many people in the Arab world and in other countries,” he added.QP was the main sponsor of the first Qatar International Paediatric Surgery Congress, which took place on February 17-19 at the Qatar National Convention Centre.Organised by the Paediatric Surgery Department of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the event was held alongside the 12th Congress of the Pan-Arab Association of Pediatric Surgeons (PAAPS).The Qatar International Pediatric Surgery Congress saw the participation of over 300 delegates, with speakers from many countries worldwide, including France, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany and Austria.Among the main objectives of the event were to promote paediatric surgery at HMC and to strengthen its relationships with other international centres and with renowned paediatric surgeons from all over the world.QP also sponsored the 14th Arab Business Forum, held on February 21-22 at the Sheraton Doha and organised by the Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) in co-operation with the League of Arab States and the Federation of Arab Businessmen.The event was attended by over 400 delegates representing countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and it also featured a distinguished lineup of speakers from the MENA region.Among the topics discussed during the two-day event were the range of investment opportunities in the Arab world and the future growth prospects in Qatar.QP will be sponsoring many other events and it will also be taking part in many other exhibitions and conferences in the coming months.For instance, the corporation has a strong presence at Offshore Arabia 2012, which is currently being held until February 29 in Dubai.It will also be participating in the 10th Middle East Geosciences Conference and Exhibition (GEO 2012) in Bahrain on March 4-7.
