ROTA celebrates Youth Service Club success – AME Info

In 2009, ROTA launched a youth development strategy for its Qatar Program based on a series of informal, extracurricular learning activities to engage, empower and enable secondary school and university students between the ages of 14 and 24 years.Supported by grants from Vodafone Qatar, 10 ROTA Youth Service Clubs worked for 12 months on a broad range of projects related to sports for development, the environment, Arabic language integration and Skills Development.”ROTA’s youth strategy equips young people in Qatar with skills and experiences which enable them to become responsible, capable, civic minded youth who are actively seeking to make their community and the world a better place, by taking direct action to address local social and global issues,” explained ROTA Manager of Community Development Mohammed Abdulla Al Saleh.Leading the way amongst the major ROTA Youth Service Clubs achievements are Tout le Monde who won the Education City Sustainability Award for educating Al Khor residents about how a few simple changes can create a sustainable lifestyle, while The Changers were invited to showcase their ‘Back to Future’ personal development project at the Qatar Career Fair.Video for Advocacy, a project created by Film for Change Youth Club of Qatar University and Northwestern University students to teach 20 ROTA Youth Service Club members how to create high quality, cutting-edge social awareness videos.Top Shabab’s ‘I Care’ project changed the attitude of Qatar University students towards low-skilled workers.
